What do we offer?


​The Regional Youth Support Service (RYSS) supports young people aged 8-21 years who are disengaged from education or employment; disconnected from family, community and/or support networks; at risk of harm; homeless or at risk of homelessness.


​RYSS offers a range of assistance designed to assist young people including:

  • ​Goal Setting​​​

  • Skills Development

  • Group Work

  • One on One Support


Through a variety of 'real life' activities our support workers provide strengths based support through a positive role model approach to help our young people reconnect. We offer personal support, life skills development, cultural enhancement, education & training support, introduction & referral to other support services.


The Regional Youth Support Service aims to create strong relationships with a number of Community Service Providers and other community stakeholders to provide a holistic approach to delivering quality services to our young people and their families. We work collaboratively with other organisations to ensure that our clients get services that are relative to their needs.


Our Services are non-judgemental and are delivered from an Indigenous philosophy of caring for and sharing with each other.

Darderrhi: Indigenous Youth Substance Misuse Treatment Service

Funding Agency: Queensland Government - Department of Health.

What do we offer?


The Darderrhi program offers a culturally appropriate program targeted at Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people aged 12-17 years with substance misuse challenges. The Darderrhi program links young people into appropriate services identified through case management, group work, brief interventions and referrals.


These services include:

  • Intervention support through case management and referrals 

  • 8 week intervention support program including: 

    • Cultural Identity and Self Awareness

    • Drug & Alcohol Education

    • Health & Fitness Sessions with ZUU Rockhampton

    • Health & Wellbeing with Deadly Choices

    • Group Mentoring Sessions

    • Cultural Activities

  • Access and referrals to counselling services. 

  • Outreach based brief intervention services to Rockhampton, Woorabinda and Mount Morgan.

Budaroo House Youth Shelter


Funding Agency: Queensland Government - Department of Communities.

Funded Period: 1 july2018 - 30 June 2023.

What do we offer?


Budaroo Shelter is a transitional supported accommodation shelter for young men and women with a target age range of 16yrs and 21yrs. There are 6 individual rooms which are allocated for 3 males and 3 females. The shelter operates 24hrs a day, 7 days a week with at least one staff member available at all times.


We aim to achieve sustainable accommodation outcomes for vulnerable young people and assisting their path to independence by providing:

  • Safe and secure accommodation;

  • Supportive programs to independent living including; budgeting, cooking, healthy living and household maintenance; and

  • Access to support services to build the young peoples capacity

Please note: If you are considering stay at Budaroo Shelter you should be aware that there are board and lodging costs associated; however financial circumstances do not limit yours or anyone else's ability to access this service. Arrangements will be made on a case by case basis with the Budaroo Shelter Senior Housing Manager.

What do we offer?


The aim of Reconnect is to prevent homelessness by intervening early with family and young people (12-17yrs of age), to stabilize and improvise their housing situation and improve their level of engagement with family, work, education, training, employment and their local community.


Reconnect objectives are achieved by working towards:

-  Mediation for family reconciliation;

- Case management to identify viable support systems;

- Engagement with employment, education, training and the community; and

- Building on the community's existing capacity
