Yimba Bira for Early Education

Funding Agency: Australian Government - Department of Social Services. 

Funded Period: 1 July 2017 - 30 June 2019.

What do we offer?

As part of Communities for Children Capricorn, Yimba Bira will deliver a fully funded 3 week program into day cares, kindergartens and playgroups. It will also deliver a fully funded 5 week program into schools up to year 2. Delivery into this age group will focus on increasing physical activity using the traditional game techniques; and also to commence creating awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture from an early age.

Tackle 6 Primary School Program

 

Funding Agency: Australian Government - Department of Social Services. 

Funded Period: 1 July 2017 - 30 June 2019.

Senior Support Worker: Jamie Simpson. 

What do we offer?

The Tackle6 Program aims to use rugby league as a vehicle to address 6 major issues that may hinder a students' ability to learn in a primary school setting. Over the course of 6 weeks, 6 tackles students will learn are the following:

  • Tackle 1 - Communication 

  • Tackle 2 -Leadership

  • Tackle 3 - Literacy 

  • Tackle 4 - Self-Awareness

  • Tackle 5 - Teamwork

  • Tackle 6 - Anti-Bullying

 

Along with the Indigenous Sport & Recreation Officer, high school students and different community organisations and agencies will combine their services to complement the programs' strategies. The program would be delivered at schools in the Rockhampton Local Government Area and it would run over a 6 week period. 

 

Tackle6 Objectives:

  • Increase knowledge of bullying and its affects in students aged 9 years to 12 years. 

  • Increase school attendance rates. 

  • Identifies students problem areas. 

 

Tackle6 Benefits

  • Raises awareness of Bullying and the importance of Literacy.

  • Assists with transitioning in to high school with students from local high schools involved.

  • Develops teamwork and leadership.

  • Build self-esteem.
